Be An Encourager
Sister Cindy Feeman
Be an encourager: when you encourage others, you boost their self esteem, enhance their self confidence, make them work harder, lift their spirits, and make them successful in their endeavors. Encouragement goes straight to the heart.
Through my years as a Christian, I can remember many times people have spoken words of encouragement to me, especially at times I really needed to hear it. But, I also remember times that people have used their words to hurt and belittle. Even though we have had those words of encouragement spoken to us, we seem to remember the hurtful words more. You may have ten people tell you that they love your dress and tell you it really flatters you, and you think, Wow I made a good choice... but have one person tell you that they think your dress isn't very becoming on you and you will never wear the dress again.
That seems to be human nature!
The old saying is true and should be practiced more... If you can't say anything nice, say nothing at all!
Just a simple greeting... a smile... a hug can all be ways to encourage. Say to a friend or sister in the Lord, :you look nice tonight" or "I missed you last week" or "I'm glad your feeling better, I've been praying for you"... added with a smile and a hug can make all the difference in the world to someone.
a handshake, a smile and the statement, "we are so glad to have you tonight" makes a visitor feel special, like someone cares.
A card that says I was thinking of you, a thank you card to your Pastor or Pastors wife to let them know that they are appreciated. Or even a card to someone who does a lot for your church, or a prayer warrior, an elder, a young person, co-worker, neighbor, etc. Everyone can use some type of encouragement.
A visit to someone in the hospital or nursing home can brighten their day and encourage them and even random acts of kindness.
If you know someone is going through a trial remind them of God's promises, give them scriptures, pray with them. Call and check on them. and if you off the words, "if I can do anything to help", mean it!
"Gracious words are like honeycomb. sweet to the soul and health to the body." Prov. 16:24
So be an encourager... you will reap what you sew!
Spread some seeds of encouragement!
