Spring Cleaning
By: Cindy Feeman

It's that time of year again! Time for Spring cleaning. Time to sort, declutter, discard and donate. Cleaning windows so we can see clearly. Clearing out cobwebs, dusting, and scrubbing every nook and crannie.

When Spring cleaning is complete we all enjoy the end result. Everything looks brighter and feels lighter and we have a sense of accomplishment. But reaching that result can be painful and dreaded. At least it is for me.
My Mother actually enjoyed Spring cleaning, I think because it brought back fond memories with her Grandma. If I heard my Mom say this once, I've heard it a million times, "Jesus wants His temple clean from ceiling to the floor. He wants even the little cracks and in behind the doors!"

Since we are temples of the Holy Ghost we too need to Spring clean our spiritual temple. all though it can be painful, the end result is definitely worth it. Spring cleaning, while worth the effort, will only last for a season, but spiritual cleansing could have eternal influence. so dust off that Bible and get the cobwebs out of your prayer closet. The Bible encourages us to draw close to God and allow our hearts and bodies to be cleansed.

This is the first step in our Spring cleaning project. But we must ask God to do the cleansing. Cleanse your heart. Psalm 51:10 says "Create in me a clean heart, O God and renew a right spirit within me". Our hearts can harbor a lot of dirty and evil things. Jealousy, envy, hate, lust, guilt... just to name a few. The spirit of God can wash away those sins and cleanse us with pure water.

Step two... Clean your mouth. Spiritual cleansing requires "deep" cleaning. Its cleansing that goes beyond what others see and hear. It's cleansing from the inside out. If your heart gets clean, the mouth should follow.
"...From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." Luke 6:26

Step three - Renew your mind. Take out the garbage. This is a big struggle for most of us. We must feed our mind and spirit with the word of God instead of the garbage of this world. Romans 12:2 states, "Be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

Repent of hidden sins and get rid of old baggage... release unforgiveness and bitterness. Any sin will weigh you down, but long kept unforgiveness and bitterness is like old baggage in the attic. Sometimes we are so familiar with it we don't realize it's there and how it's hindering our lives. "Wherefore seeing we are compassed with so great a witness, let us lay aside every weight, and sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us." Hebrews 12:1

Involve Jesus in your daily life. Let the SON shine in. Let the light of God's presence shine into every part of your temple, and you'll have no need for a yearly spiritual cleansing. Instead, experience daily, moment to moment refreshing of your spirit.
